How the counts work
A word is any run of characters between spaces that contains a letter or a digit, the same rule a word processor uses, so “e-mail” and “don’t” count as one word each. Characters are counted as you see them: an emoji or an accented letter is one character. “Without spaces” leaves out spaces, tabs and line breaks.
Sentences are found by your browser’s language rules and are an estimate. An abbreviation that ends in a full stop can be counted as the end of a sentence. Paragraphs are blocks of text separated by a blank line.
The case options
Title Case capitalises each word except short joining words such as “and”, “of” and “the”, unless they open or close the line. Sentence case puts everything in lower case and capitalises the first letter of each sentence, so names and acronyms will need fixing by hand afterwards.
The last three are for code and web addresses. They drop punctuation and join the words of each line:
kebab-case small-tools-useful-software snake_case small_tools_useful_software camelCase smallToolsUsefulSoftware
kebab-case also removes accents, which makes it suitable for the end of a web address.
Undo
Changing case replaces the text in the box. Undo brings back the text as it was before the last change, including after Clear.
